Hi. I’m Dan!

I build things with software for a living.

Before that, I practiced law.

Before that, I attended seminary, after studying philosophy as an undergrad.

You might note that those are relatively disparate careers paths. And they are. One commonality is that in each of them, language matters.

Language matters in philosophy. For everyone, but especially for the philosophers I enjoyed reading, thinkers like Wittgenstein and Rorty.

For Christians, language and hermeneutics are paramount, as we strive to interpret well our holy texts.

Interpretation of language is also key pillar of any substantial legal system.

I am certainly infatuated with language, but I struggled to find a career arc that I would enjoy in the long term. At some point, I discovered that I wanted to build things. Fortunately, software lets me build stuff… with language!

On the technical side of things, I’ve been spending most of my time lately writing Elixir and JS. I do not enjoy them equally.
